At One World Chess, we believe chess is more than a game. It is a tool for transformation. Our mission is to empower underserved communities around the world to use chess as a catalyst for opportunity, helping children build confidence, strengthen critical thinking, develop resilience, and discover their potential. Through meaningful partnerships, we equip local leaders and organizations to create lasting impact, ensuring that every child has the chance to learn, grow, and shape a brighter future.

Meet The Team

Gogo Dancig-Perlman

Co-Founder, Head Coach & Director of Partnerships

Gogo discovered chess at the age of three and quickly became one of the top players in the United States for his age group. He has earned multiple top finishes at the CalChess State Championship and excelled in regional and national tournaments. Beyond competing, Gogo shares his passion by teaching chess at his middle school, guiding students through strategies and problem-solving.

Outside of chess, he has a deep love for mathematics and has been pursuing college-level math since age nine. As Co-Founder of One World Chess, Gogo hopes to share his greatest passion for chess to empower children worldwide to believe in themselves and bring hope to their communities.

Yali Dancig-Perlman

Co-Founder & Director of Program Design and Strategy

Raised in San Francisco, Yali began playing chess at a young age and quickly became a tournament competitor, winning the CalChess State Championship and excelling in regional competitions. For over a decade, he has taught children and adults, one-on-one and in groups, sharing his love of the game and helping students grow their skills and confidence.

As president of his school chess club, he spread his passion and built a community of problem solvers. Through One World Chess, Yali dreams of transforming kids' lives, giving them purpose, and making a lasting impact around the world.

Outside of chess, he's a varsity athlete in Cross Country and Track, enjoys basketball, and loves spending time with his family.

Ladia Jirasek, IM

Advisor & Director of Curriculum Development

Growing up in Marin County, Ladia discovered chess at the age of 10 and immediately fell in love with the game. Without ever having a personal coach, he dedicated himself to learning and competing, ultimately earning the title of International Master at 18. He has been teaching chess for over 12 years and loves helping students reach new heights in their play. Ladia is also the author of How to Chess and is passionate about supporting as many students as possible in improving their skills.

Outside of chess, Ladia works as a trader at a hedge fund and is a UC Berkeley Economics graduate.

Aaron Thompson

Director of Community Development

Aaron is a USCF Expert-class chess player and a seasoned educator with a focus on chess psychology. He served as the Director of Outreach for Chess in Slums Africa, bringing the game to underserved communities and using chess to teach critical thinking, resilience, and problem-solving. Aaron also lectures on chess psychology and has directed numerous tournaments, helping players of all levels improve their skills.

In addition to his work in chess, Aaron holds an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, bringing a deep understanding of human behavior and learning to his mentorship and teaching.
